Welcome to 5th Grade!

Fifth grade is a fun and challenging year.  We will work to develop strong reading comprehension skills while creating a love of reading. Working with multiple-step story problems in math will be another focus. The students will also be expected to learn all of of their multiplication fast facts this year.  In science and social studies, we will focus on learning by using our reading comprehension skills to explore new ideas and topics.  Art will be one of our pull-out classes this year along with P.E., technology, and library.

We will use the Common Core Standards to focus our learning in each subject.  A link to the standards is attached below so that you can see what your child will be expected to learn.  I am looking forward to a great year with your student.  Please feel free to contact me through email with questions altwies@aps.edu
