Before/After School Care for 2015-2016

Child Care at Hubert Humphrey for 2015-2016 will be through a program called Children's Choice. Children’s Choice is a local, non-profit provider of 5-Star CYFD licensed and nationally-accredited child care programs. The “core” child care program includes snacks, enrichment activities, homework help, field trips, and more!  Financial Assistance is available. Children's Choice also coordinates free enrichment classes in Science, Arts, Healthy Kids, Math, Literacy, Cognitive Skills and Life Skills, which are made possible by the Community Schools Initiative (CSI) program. For more information visit www.childrens-choice.org

Important Information

Mrs. Miller's Beginning of the Year Letter

Bell Schedule:

  • The first bell rings at 8:50 AM and the dismissal bell rings at 3:40 PM. On Wednesday, the dismissal bell rings at 1:00 PM.

Kindergarten and New Student Enrollment/Registration:

  • New Student Enrollment/Registration for incoming Kindergarteners and other new students for the 2015-2016 school year will be in the front office daily between 10:00 AM and 1:00 PM starting Monday, July 27th. Please bring a Birth Certificate, Shot Record and Proof of Residence (PNM or Gas bill is preferred).

Important Beginning of the Year Information:

  • Picture Day will be Friday, September 4th! Mark your calendars!
  • Student Planners are $5.00 each, cash only and will be sold for Grades 2-5 on Teacher Assignment Day (8/5) and Meet Your Teacher Day (8/12). Planners will be also available in the office any time after the first day of school. Any proceeds from planners will go to staff appreciation.

Curriculum Nights:

  • 4th Grade: Tuesday, Sept. 1st from 5:30-6:00 PM
  • 5th Grade: Tuesday, Sept. 1st from 6:00-6:30 PM
  • 1st Grade: Wednesday, Sept. 2nd from 5:30-6:00 PM
  • 2nd Grade: Wednesday, Sept. 2nd from 6:00-6:30 PM
  • 3rd Grade: Wednesday, Sept. 2nd from 6:30-7:00 PM

After School Program Sign-up

  • Parents: Time to Register for tuition- free, after school classes. Check your child's back pack for important information on after school classes from Children's Choice.  The registration deadline is August 23, 2015. You can register for classes by visiting www.childrens-choice.org. Enrollment is based on a Lottery System.

Student-led Parent-Teacher Conferences:

  • Student-led Parent Teacher Conferences will be November 23-24 and February 25-26. There will be no school for students on these days, however there will be a conference scheduled with your student's teacher on one of these days.

Pick-Up Procedures

Walking Parent Pick-Up:

  • In the grassy area in front of the Multi-purpose room.
  • This is a PICK UP area only
  • Please, no playing, no visiting in this area
  • Bus Line Congestion: please help us keep our Bus Line Safe!
  • Please do not use the sidewalk in front of the bus lines
  • Use the sidewalk on Academy Hills if you are meeting your child at the MPR after school
  • Bike riders, skate boarders, scooters, moms (or dads) with strollers, etc., move to the MPR grass area for pick up at Dismissal Time
  • No Playing on the Playground until after 4:00 PM.

Car Drop Off/Pick-Up:

  • The yellow zone at the cafeteria is NOT a pick-up area
  • Your child will wait by one of the three gates
  • The 3rd gate by thekinder building is for Kindergarten students and Day Care van students only. 
  • Drop Off/Pick Up of students in back of school only.
  • Gates open at 6:00 AM and locked at 9:05 AM.
  • Gates open again at 3:30 PM and are locked at 4:00 PM.
  • NO LEFT TURN allowed from Concordia going south into the drop-off lane.
  • All drop offs/pick-ups must be done from Concordia going North, right turn only.

Lost Jackets, Hats, Gloves...

Please check the cafeteria and/or the office for any lost items. They are piling up and we have many jackets, sweaters and sweatshirts in Lost & Found in both the Cafeteria and Front Office. Everything left in Lost & Found will be donated to the APS clothing bank. Also, please remember to label your items if possible. 

PE Jump Ropes

Don't forget to have your child bring a jump rope for PE. This is for all classes, Grades 1-5.
